Why Solar Powered Chargers Can Help You

By Dan Ashton

Depending on where you live, extreme weather conditions or just general unreliability of power supplies could mean that having a back up energy source is vital. Particularly when it comes to communication, a solar phone charger for examply could make the difference between calling for help or not.

Choosing a solar charger to back up a few batteries that will give you electricity any time it is needed. The good thing about solar chargers is that at any time you can use the solar charged batteries, and turn all the power off in your home that you can do without, and use the solar charged batteries. This will help you to cut down on your electric bill, dramatically.

Once the initial purchase of your solar panel, or solar charger is made, there should be no further cost. The electricity you recieve is then "free". It may take some time to recoup your initial investment, several months perhaps, but at least you know that your standard electricity charges should start to drop.

Obviously the scale of the solar panels that you want to install or use is entirely up to you. Again, a professional can advise should you wish to provide permanent or just back up power to your home, whereas you would be able to assess yourself what you require for battery charging etc.

For the ultimate in solar power for your home, you could start with a wind turbine that will hook up to a generator; the generator will then transfer power to an inverter, which will store power in at least 4 batteries or power cells. Regular house electricity is powered by Alternating current (AC) and the solar power that you are saving used direct current (DC), so you need to have an inverter to transform the DC current into AC current. You will also need a component called a charge controller. The charge controller disconnects the electric current once the batteries have been fully charged; this is a necessity for long battery life. Batteries still have to be maintained, even the batteries that you are storing energy in.

Before you start the installation of the full option of using solar power for you whole house, ensure that all the essentials are included, from equipment to mount the panels to inverters to convert the electricity.

Once the system you want is installed, it has little maintenance other than checking the batteries once a month. And the system will provide emergency electricity for more than 20 years. - 16069
